Most can be used again, they just don't want to take the risk of breaking them trying to take them apart plus you need to send them into the lab to have them cut & mounted so if you don't have a back up pair you are out of luck. plus they frequently break within 3 months of having new lenses put in them.

I had Lasik eye surgery done after wearing glasses for 16 years. It has been perfect for me. I have had no changes. Of course, as I age, I expect changes. I also co-manage refractive surgery and have seen hundreds of successful patients. It doesn't hurt, generally. There is a bit of pressure, but no real pain if you have LASIK. The PRK version (where no flap is cut) is a little more uncomfortable for the first few days following the procedure. I've seen several people who said they were in some pain, but healed just fine. I used to wear both glasses and contact lenses. I had LASIK done and it's the best decision I've ever made. I can see clearly, no squinting, no driving with glasses anymore. I can read road signs, see the individual leaves in the trees (they're not just a blurry mess anymore). It's also nice to be able to see what time it is when I wake up. Conjunctivitis

This is generally the most common type of eye infection seen regularly in dogs. Conjunctivitis is characterized by the inflammation of the portion of the eye called the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is the thin, clear membrane that protects the eye as well as the inner eyelid. The cause of this condition is most commonly a viral infection, an allergic reaction, or a bacterial infection.

The most common bacteria that cause conjunctivitis are streptococci and staphylococci. In Allergic conjunctivitis, the cause may be any number of airborne irritants that are causing an allergic reaction. Conjunctivitis that is caused by a virus is usually a result of a respiratory infection, flu, or other viral conditions. Regardless of the specific cause, this is the condition that manifests with all of the general symptoms of an eye infection, without any secondary symptoms.

Blepharitis

Blepharitis is a condition that usually manifests as an inflammation of the eyelids. That mostly depends on what exactly you mean by a 'lazy' eye. Is he amblyopic (unable to obtain clear vision in one eye, even with glasses) or strabismic (one eye turned in, like he's cross-eyed, or out the other direction)? Or both? The prognosis for different combinations varies quite a lot. In my answer, I'm going to assume that his eyes are aligned (so he doesn't look "cross-eyed" or "wall-eyed") but that one eye has, for some reason, vision that doesn't get as good as it should even with glasses. (The reason I'm assuming this is that it doesn't usually take 15 years to notice a kid's cross-eyed, but it does sometimes take that long to notice an asymmetrical prescription, or a prescription only in one eye.)
Typically in this sort of situation, an optometrist is going to prescribe glasses in addition to some form of patching regimen. Looking at all the research that's been done, patching works really really well in children like this up to the age of eight or so; beyond that, we know it doesn't work as well, but it does sometimes still work, we just don't have a percentage of how often or any statistics like that. If any vision training exercises are going to be done, it's usually at the same time or after a few weeks of patching; this largely depends on the reason that the eye is lazy. Everybody's got their own method of patching, but typically it's a few hours a day (2-4 minimum) while doing visually intensive tasks (homework, TV, whatever), ideally 6-7 days per week, with follow-up appointments every 4-6 weeks to monitor the improvement. Wearing the patch all the time will not help things go faster, and could cause problems with the good eye, so follow whatever combination the doctor tells you (within reason!) Surgery in these cases tends not to be an option -- surgery would just be to line up eyes that don't look in the same direction, and even then there are a lot of measurements and things that have to work out for it to be feasible.
In any case, patching is one of those things that, when you're presented with the situation, you have to ask yourself not "is this likely to help?", but instead ask "are we doing everything we can to try for the best possible outcome?". The oldest I've seen anyone try was a 16yo girl; she had some improvement, not as much as a young kid, but certainly better than if the family hadn't tried it. And it's definitely something that, if you try it and it works, that's great, but if it doesn't work, you're not going to make things worse; at least you tried.
As far as cost goes, up here in Canada it's covered by our government healthcare plans; if we were to charge privately I imagine it would be $30-$50 per visit. I've heard in the US that it's more expensive, but I can't imagine it being more than double. Keep in mind you're likely to be doing monthly visits for 6 months or so. Plus the cost of glasses... and an eyepatch!
